The 20-year-old enjoyed a productive spell with the Dons in the 2021-22 season, despite their disappointing relegation to League Two following a 27-match winless run to end the campaign.
Assal scored eight goals and registered two assists in his 42 League One appearances, who made his debut for the first team in November 2019 after joining the academy set up from Millwall.
However, Assal could be set for a move to the Premier League over the coming months, with the Mirror reporting that Thomas Frank's Brentford have registered an interest in a potential move this summer, along with West London rivals Fulham.
Relegated side Norwich City also hold an interest in the youngster according to the report, as well as fellow Championship sides Blackburn Rovers and Queens Park Rangers, who will be joined by the Canaries in the second tier next season.
Assal signed a three-year deal with the Dons last summer, and is said to be valued at around £1.5m as he enters the final two years of that deal in July.
