Augsburg appoint Borussia Dortmund reserve coach Enrico Maaßen

Maaßen, 38, replaces Markus Weinzeirl, who stepped down at the end of 2021/22 after steering Augsburg to a 12th successive season of Bundesliga football in his second stint at the helm.

The finer details of the agreement will be ironed out in the coming days.

"I'm happy to have the chance to prove myself and to be able to build something sustainable together in Augsburg as a team," said Maaßen. "I would also like to thank the people in charge of BVB for making the move possible."

Maaßen guided the Dortmund U23s to the Regionalliga West title in his first season in charge, before overseeing a ninth-placed finish in the 2021/22 3. Liga. He previously coached the Hansa Rostock reserves, as well as lower-league clubs Greifswalder, Verl, Goslarer, Drochtersen/ Assel and Rödingshausen.

"We've been following the development of Enrico Maaßen with real interest in recent years," commented Augsburg sporting director Stefan Reuter. "He's a young coach, who is hungry for success and wants to improve. He gives young players a lot of attention and has proven he can support them.
