Arsenal icon takes on commentator with three Premier League predictions

talksport.com, 22 November 2024, 12:11
The Premier League is back and that can only mean one thing.

Yep, it's the return of talkSPORT commentator Sam Matterface and Arsenal great Ray Parlour's Premier League predictions.

Each week, the duo share their predictions on Friday's edition of talkSPORT Breakfast.

But these aren't just predictions tossed into the wind.

No, there is most certainly an element of competitiveness to it all.

Parlour and Matterface can pick up one point for guessing the correct result, three points for the correct scoreline and a bonus point if they can name a goalscorer.

As it stands, Matterface leads Parlour in the count with 56 points to the ex-Gunner's 54.

Can Parlour claw back the deficit, or will Matterface add to his lead?

Leicester City v Chelsea - Saturday, 12:30pm (talkSPORT EXCLUSIVE)

Sam Matterface: Leicester City 0-2 Chelsea, Cole Palmer to score

"Chelsea have won just one of their last seven Premier League games immediately following an international break. That was Bournemouth the other week and they weren't very convincing in that game.

"They are better away from home than they are at home, which is a bit strange. I don't think that Leicester will have enough to win."

Ray Parlour: Leicester City 1-2 Chelsea, Nicolas Jackson to score.

"Chelsea are going really well at the moment. 1-1 draw last game against Arsenal, could have gone either way. I can't see Chelsea losing this."

Aston Villa v Crystal Palace - Saturday, 3pm (talkSPORT 2 EXCLUSIVE)

Sam Matterface: Aston Villa 3-1 Crystal Palace, Ollie Watkins to score

"Villa have lost each of their last four games but I don't think they're going to lose against Crystal Palace because they don't have a clue what their best team is. Mainly because of injuries, they've been hampered all season with issues, key players having to play out of position as well. They're only win this season came away at Spurs, but going to Villa is a very difficult thing to do.

"Unai Emery will have got them sorted in the international break, even if a lot of his players have been away. Watkins has certainly done well during that international break. He hasn't scored in his last five for Villa, but he's on a high after what happened with England."

Ray Parlour: Aston Villa 2-1 Crystal Palace, Morgan Rogers

"I can't see past a Villa victory here as well. I don't know what to expect from Palace this season. They looked ok against Forest going forward, they created chances, Eze's obviously a big player for them in midfield.

Manchester City v Tottenham - Saturday, 5:30pm

Sam Matterface: Manchester City 3-1 Tottenham, Josko Gvardiol to score

"If you analyse the data, Tottenham are very close to Manchester City in terms of goals, possession, assists, zone entries. But they've got just 16 points. Guardiola's just signed a new contract, yes Manchester City have lost their last four in a row, but they don't lose at the Etihad."

Ray Parlour: Manchester City 2-1 Tottenham, Erling Haaland to score

"Four games in a row is unthinkable, to see Man City lose. No-one expected that. Spurs are a little inconsistent, no-one expected Ipswich to beat them at the Tottenham Stadium last week. You never know what you're going to get with Spurs. They're capable of going to Man City and making it difficult. So this is a tough one to call."
