Pizzuto, the 17-year-old midfielder, is rated highly in his country and was part of the Mexico squad which finished runners-up to Brazil at last year’s Under-17 World Cup.
He joined Pachuca in Mexico’s top division a couple of years ago and, after impressing in their youth teams, was finally afforded the opportunity to make his professional debut on Saturday.
He was thrown into the fray 59 minutes into Pachuca’s defeat at Leon, with the visitors already 3-0 down at the time of his introduction from the bench.
However, only nine minutes after being brought on, Pizzuto suffered a horror injury in a freak situation with no player even near him.
You can watch a video of the horror injury, below (viewer discretion is advised)…
Chasing a loose ball in the middle of the park, Pizzuto jumped forward to win possession and play a pass to a team-mate.
But as he fell back to the ground, the youngster’s leg appeared to get stuck in the grass and he flipped over – with players from both teams quickly rushing towards him.
One player who went to comfort Pizzuto was Luis Montes, who suffered a similar injury weeks before the start of the 2014 World Cup which resulted in him being out of action for nine months.
TUDN say Pizzuto suffered a fibula fracture and the dislocation of his ankle, with surgery planned for Sunday.
Eugenio Pizzuto endured the worst professional debut imaginable on Saturday as he suffered a horror injury only NINE minutes into his first ever club appearance.
