Premier League players are known to have a penchant for expensive cars, whether it be the latest Ferrari, Lamborghini or Aston Martin.
Dele Alli hit the headlines in recent days after he turned up to Everton training in a Rolls Royce and was subsequently defended by manager Frank Lampard.
But Murphy had an issue almost totally opposite to the former Tottenham midfielder and had to be spoken to by Fowler after he was seen driving around in a Seat Ibiza.
The midfielder joined Liverpool from Crewe in 1997 for £1.5million and got a huge boost in his wages.
But instead of splurging on an expensive car, he kept the same motor and it meant he got a few comments from his new teammates.
"I remember being at Liverpool when I first turned up there in my little Seat Ibiza," Murphy told talkSPORT.
"I was honestly seven months down the line, earning £3,000-a-week, and Robbie Fowler pulled me one day and said 'you are embarrassing yourself in that car. You are allowed to get yourself something [new]'.
"I didn't want to come across as flash.
"One of the lads like Robbie said to me just get yourself something. I ended up with a new Mazda with alloys and a CD player… I was buzzing!"
