But the Wolves defender went from hero to zero as he was later sent off for a nasty tackle on Luke Ayling.
Wolves found themselves 3-0 down against Leeds and heading for disaster, but got themselves back into the match in the most extraordinary way possible.
With Leeds cruising, goalkeeper Illan Meslier flew off his goal line to clear a dangerous ball forward with his head outside the area, and it looked like the crisis was averted.
However, when the ball was carelessly knocked across the pitch by Marc Roca, Jonny spotted an unlikely opportunity and went for it.
Smashing the ball first time on the volley, the Spanish left back saw his shot fly over Meslier and into the back of the net from miles out.
"What. A. Goal from Jonny Otto," said talkSPORT's Adam Bridge. "Jonny on the volley, 40? 45 yards out? Over the top of the keeper, what a goal!"
His effort flew in, but then so did his horror tackle on Ayling as he lunged in on the Leeds man in the 84th minute to earn himself a straight red card.
In truth, Jonny was lucky he didn't cause Ayling some serious harm. Fortunately the Leeds star able to play on.
It was a dramatic clash at Molineux, with Leeds eventually winning 4-2 to boost their hopes of Premier League survival.
Javi Gracia's side enjoyed a dream start when Jack Harrison stuck to make it 1-0 in just the sixth minute, with Ayling making it 2-0 shortly after half-time.
Rasmus Kristensen then made it 3-0 on 62 minutes, before Jonny's wondergoal shortly after gave Wolves some hope of turning the game around.
Matheus Cunha then pulled another goal back for the visitors to really boost their chances, but Jonny's red card effectively ended the contest.
Rodrigo then added a fourth for Leeds in stoppage-time with a wonderful dinked finish to secure a crucial three points.
