Tuchel risks repeating Chelsea transfer mistake despite "hard to know" admission

Chelsea have finally started to make some signings in the transfer window this summer under Todd Boehly's new era but it might have unwanted consequences Thomas Tuchel of Chelsea during a press conference in Las Vegas, Nevada

Thomas Tuchel is at risk of losing one of his top talents as he continues his efforts in the transfer market this summer.

Chelsea have made some big signings already after landing Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly from Manchester City and Napoli respectively. After a slow start to the summer, the Blues have finally got into action and there could be further arrivals as well.

While a move for Nathan Ake appears to have fallen through, that has not stopped Tuchel from continuing his search for more defenders. A reunion with Paris Saint-Germain star Presnel Kimpembe looks like it is on the cards with the clubs thrashing out negotiations.

Sevilla star Jules Kounde is another that has been heavily linked over the past year and a deal could be complete over the next few weeks. And while both players would no doubt bolster Tuchel's defence, one player would be less than happy.

Levi Colwill had a fantastic season on loan at Huddersfield last season, helping them achieve an unlikely spot in the play-offs and the 19-year-old has been tipped for stardom. So much so that there is a long list of clubs willing to sign the defender.

According to The Athletic, Colwill will consider leaving if Tuchel goes ahead with his plan to sign two defenders - which would be a brutal blow to the Blues. There are many at the club who believe he could be as good as fellow academy graduates Mason Mount and Reece James.

This would not be the first time that Chelsea have lost a youngster who has gone on to prove them wrong. That mistake is fresh in the mind of many fans who saw Marc Guehi sold for £18million to Crystal Palace last season.

The defender has gone on to become a key player for the Eagles and an England international while his market value has skyrocketed. With Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen leaving for nothing this summer, Guehi could have been an easy solution to at least one of those problems.

Even the fact that Ake was sought after this summer reeks of irony considering that his arrival would block Colwill. The Netherlands international was sold by the Blues in 2017 for £20m while Chelsea were linked with a move that would have seen him return for around £45m.

Losing Colwill would just be another error on the club's behalf - one that will no doubt end up biting them on the backside in years to come.
