Steve Clarke's side know a win in Chisinau will guarantee them a playoff place in March after a 1-0 win over the Faroe Islands solidified second in Group F.
However, the Tartan Army have bad memories of their travels to Moldova with an infamous 1-1 draw in 2004 putting paid to their qualification hopes.
That game proved the final act of Berti Vogts's Scotland tenure and the Hampden Park outfit will be desperate to exercise decades-old demons.
Moldova v Scotland: How to listen
This match will kick-off at 5pm on Friday, November 12.
Scotland know a win against bottom-place Moldova is vital with their last World Cup qualifier against runaway group leaders Denmark.
The Scots edged a narrow 1-0 win over Moldova when the two sides last met back in September following Lyndon Dykes' early strike.

Moldova v Scotland: Team news
Olympiacos full-back Oleg Reabciuk is suspended for the hosts following the red card he received against Israel last month.
For Scotland meanwhile, Scott McTominay has been sent home from the squad after coming down with a throat virus.
The Manchester United midfielder, 24, will miss the match against Moldova but could return for Monday's final game with Denmark.
Grant Hanley is also missing through injury while attacking pair Ryan Christie and Lyndon Dykes are both suspended.
But there is more positive news on Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney, who has fully recovered from an ankle issue ahead of Friday's qualifier.
Moldova v Scotland: What has been said?
Clarke told Sky Sports: "We always looked at the November games and thought if we can get there and still be involved in the process for qualification, that's what we want to do.
"We've managed to achieve that.
"Now it's about finishing the job, making sure we get the points required to get that playoff place and hopefully go into the playoffs in a really good run of form."
He added: "The lads know they are going to be difficult to break down.
"We only managed one goal past them at Hampden.
"If you look at the game fairly and objectively, we should have scored another two or three, which would have put a better scoreline on it.
"But the 1-0 still got us three points, which was important at the time.
"We've managed to win four in a row. We know if we make it five it will secure second spot. That's all we're focused on."
