Jadon Sancho urged to copy Cristiano Ronaldo to overcome Man Utd struggles

Jadon Sancho should take a leaf out of Cristiano Ronaldo 's book to kickstart his Manchester United career, according to former United winger Andrei Kanchelskis.

Sancho joined United in a £73million transfer from Borussia Dortmund in the summer but has not found his feet at Old Trafford.

The 21-year-old is yet to contribute a goal or an assist for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side in 11 appearances across all competitions.

He has played 519 minutes altogether in a red shirt, but has been in and out of Solskjaer's side with competition for places fierce.

Sancho was brilliant for Dortmund where he got 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 games and Kanchelskis is sure he will come good at United.

"He's a great player. He needs some time, because it's a different country and a different mindset," he told the Mirror on behalf of Casumo.

"Give him some time because he will help Manchester United more in the future.

"It's difficult in another country. Everything changes. Good luck to him. Just wait."

Kanchelskis was one of the first foreign players to join the English top flight when Sir Alex Ferguson signed him for £650,000 from Shakhtar Donetsk in 1991.

Despite the difficulties of moving to a new country, Kanchelskis went on to win two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and League Cup over four years at United, becoming a cult figure at the club.

Not only did he have to adapt to a new country and a new language, Kanchelskis had to get used to the culture inside a dressing room which contained big egos like Peter Schmeichel, Ryan Giggs, Roy Keane, Paul Ince, Mark Hughes and Eric Cantona.

Kanchelskis says that although Sancho is used to elite football having been at Dortmund, he will have to adapt to the cut-throat nature of United where you don't get the benefit of time.

"Every player that has gone to Manchester United will understand what has happened [with Sancho]," he said.

"It's a big club, big corporation. Sitting on the bench - no one likes this. There are too many good players.

"This is life, this is football. If you do better, find form and do better than other players it will be OK, you will get into the starting XI.

"This is Manchester United: big team with big names and a lot of players. Some players are scared to move to a big team like Man United, because they won't play and they think it's better to play for small teams where you stay in the first XI every week.

"You have to work hard in the training sessions. You have to perform better than the other players. It's a big club with big expectations.

"Everyone has the same goals. If you move to Man United you must say, 'I am a better player', like Ronaldo."

Ronaldo has made an immediate impact upon his return to United, scoring six goals in eight games.

The latest strike was indicative of his second spell at the club, a bullet header in the 81st minute to complete a 3-2 comeback win over Atalanta on Tuesday.

Solskjaer will be looking for further impressive performances from Ronaldo and Sancho when United host Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.

United are without a win in their last three league games and will need some magic to inflict the first defeat of the season on Jurgen Klopp's side.
