I played against Torres and Rooney but Chelsea legend was my toughest opponent

talksport.com, today at 13:59
Philippe Senderos played against countless Premier League legends, but one stands out as the toughest.

The former Arsenal centre-back, who made 131 appearances in the top-flight for the Gunners, has named some of the league's most prolific scorers in his blind ranking with talkSPORT.

He named Wayne Rooney in third place, followed by Fernando Torres in second, but it was Chelsea's Didier Drogba who he placed as no. 1.

"Drogba has to be in the top two, against me at least!" the former Swiss international said. "He always came up with big goals against Arsenal and he was a tough striker.

"He was always on form against Arsenal and was a big player for big moments.

"He was very physical and able to shoot from anywhere, good in the air, tough player to play against."

Speaking about Torres, Senderos said: "He was fantastic for Liverpool at that time.

"He had great movements, was very intelligent in and around, but also from further.

"He had great deliveries from [Steven] Gerrard and others around who could put him in good areas and his movement in the box - he would come alive."

Torres, nicknamed El Nino, netted 85 top-flight goals across stints at Liverpool and Chelsea.

Rooney - who scored 208 Premier League goals in 491 appearances for Man United - was ranked third by the former Arsenal defender, who admitted that the ex-Everton starlet could 'hurt you from anywhere'.

His full rankings saw him put Carlos Tevez in fourth, Emmanuel Adebayor fifth and talkSPORT host Gabby Agbonlahor in sixth.

Ex-Tottenham and Man United star Dimitar Berbatov came seventh, Darren Bent eighth, Robbie Keane ninth and Craig Bellamy concluded the list in tenth.

Senderos spent seven years at the north London club, winning the FA Cup in 2004-05 and the Community Shield in 2004.

He was unlucky to miss the entire season in 2003-04 when Arsenal went unbeaten to win the Premier League as he was sidelined with a back problem and then a fractured bone in his foot.

After his stint at Arsenal, he moved to Fulham from 2010 until 2014 and went onto have spells at Aston Villa, Rangers and Houston Dynamo until his retirement in 2019.

Senderos won over 50 caps for Switzerland, captaining the national team in 2008 in a 2-1 friendly defeat to England.

He represented Switzerland at three World Cups and made his last international appearance in 2016.
