England blow as Rashford among three stars ruled out of Euro 2024 qualifiers

Manchester United striker Rashford picked up a knock in his side's 3-1 FA Cup quarter-final victory against Fulham on Sunday.

It remains unclear how long Rashford will be out for after he limped off the pitch late on at Old Trafford.

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag will be hoping he recovers quickly with the club in a fight to stay in the top four, while they remain in the latter stages of the FA Cup and Europa League.

Meanwhile Chelsea midfielder Mount has been battling with a pubic bone injury, and Newcastle goalkeeper Pope is nursing a minor problem.

Blues boss Graham Potter revealed last week how Mount was set to pull out having failed to shake off his niggle.

Tottenham goalkeeper Fraser Forster has replaced Pope in the Three Lions squad after impressing between the sticks in Hugo Lloris' absence.

But surprisingly, Southgate will not be making any further changes to his team in light of Rashford and Mount's injuries.

The news will come as a disappointment to Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse, who has been in inspired form for the Saints.

Meanwhile Southgate had the opportunity to call up the likes of Ollie Watkins, Jadon Sancho, Solly March and Tammy Abraham for Rashford.

England face Italy and Ukraine in their Euro 2024 qualifiers over the international break as they look to bounce back following their World Cup quarter-final exit in Qatar.

The Three Lions boast a woeful record against Italy in the last decade, with their last win against the Azzurri coming in 2012.

Since then, they have been beaten in the Euro 2020 final by Robert Mancini's men, while also suffering a draw and another loss in the recent Nations League campaign.

Thankfully they fare better against Ukraine, having won five of their eight meetings against them.
