The Reds hero has sealed his first job in the Premier League after leaving Rangers to replace Dean Smith at Villa Park.

Gerrard meanwhile will be desperate to pick up points straight away with Villa currently on a five-match losing streak in the top division.

He will be without a number of his key players during the international break with Tyrone Mings away with England, Matty Cash now at Poland, John McGinn a big player for Scotland and keeper Emi Martinez on duty with Argentina.

When will Gerrard return to Anfield?

While Gerrard has been thrown straight in the deep end with a tough run of fixtures at Villa, all eyes will be on his return to Anfield.

The 49-year-old starts his managerial career in England against Brighton before clashes with Crystal Palace, Man City and Leicester City.

He then returns to Anfield in exactly a month after his appointment, on Saturday December 11, to face off against Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool stars.

Gerrard never got the chance to play under Klopp on Merseyside having left the club in 2015 - just months before the German took charge.

He has returned as a player for the Reds' legends side but this will be the first time the former England international will be in the Anfield dugout as a manager.

Gerrard almost returned to Liverpool's iconic venue this summer with Rangers but a proposed pre-season friendly between the two sides never came to fruition.

What has been said?

Klopp famously named Gerrard as the man Liverpool would look to bring in should he be sacked by the club back in 2019.

"If Liverpool were to sack me tomorrow, then maybe Kenny would be the first choice to replace me, but they would probably bring Stevie down from Glasgow," he told FourFourTwo.

"If you ask who should follow me, I'd say Stevie. I help him whenever I can."
