DC United have confirmed the appointment of Wayne Rooney as their new manager, with the club explaining he has already shown his managerial qualities since hanging up his boots.

The former England international striker arrives shortly after confirming his departure from Derby County. Rooney spent two seasons as a player with the Major League Soccer side before hanging up his boots, and has now completed a return to the US.

Rooney left Derby after their relegation from the Championship at the end of last season. He was spotted boarding a plane to the States over the weekend and has now been confirmed in his new role.

Other Magpies targets

It is not only Alexander Isak that Eddie Howe is a keen admirer of, Newcastle are also thought to be keeping tabs on Espanyol striker Raul de Tomas.

De Tomas was previously touted with a potential switch to Arsenal in January but could instead find his Premier League switch come at Newcastle.

The forward will cost £60m as a result of his release clause, but that is unlikely to deter Newcastle with their newfound wealth.

Newcastle weigh up club record bid

Alexander Isak has emerged as the perfect signing for Newcastle, it has been claimed.

According to The Telegraph, the club's board have unamiously decided that the Swedish striker is the right man to go after this summer.

United 's new manager, has seen his son put pen to paper on a contract of his own, with the giant sportswear brand snapping him up.

On Kai's Instagram, a post to his 55,000 followers announcing the deal, which will see him don Puma boots and clothing, read: "Great to sign for @puma. Only see great." His 56-goal campaign for United came alongside teammate and Cristiano Ronaldo 's son, Cristiano Jr.

Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly is reportedly close to joining Chelsea in a €40million (£38.8m) deal.

According to reports from France, as relayed by Get French Football News, the 31-year-old defender is expected to sign a three-year deal with the Blues after Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain missed out on him.
