Euro 2024 is on the horizon with the tournament set to be played at some pretty iconic venues.

Germany are the host nations and that means that football fans around the world can look forward to seeing the biggest stars in action.

But as well as that, fans will be treated to some of football's most historic stadiums.

From moments of sporting greatness, iconic pop culture moments and key moments from history, Euro 2024 will boast plenty of value for fans tuning in and for those making the trip to Germany, it's set to be a tournament that will tick multiple venues off any sporting bucket list.

The Euros will be staged across 10 different venues in Germany with Berlin's Olympiastadion hosting a semi-final clash and the final itself, with Bayern's Munich Football Arena - more commonly known as the Allianz Arena - hosting the other semi-final.

Here talkSPORT.com takes a look at the 10 Euro 2024 venues and why they're so iconic.

Berlin: Olympiastadion

Built in 1936, the 71,000 capacity stadium was opened for the 1936 Olympic games in Berlin and subsequently became the home of German sport.

Home to Hertha Berlin, the Olympiastadion was also the venue for Zinedine Zidane's famous headbutt on Marco Materazzi at the World Cup in 2006, while also hosting Barcelona's win over Juventus in the 2015 Champions League final.

Away from sport, the venue has also hosted huge rock concerts for bands including The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, U2 and Michael Jackson.

Cologne: Cologne Stadium

Home to FC Koln, the 50,000-capacity stadium hosted the 2020 Europa League final between Sevilla and Inter Milan.

It has also been home to a number of high-profile concerts including Metallica, Beyonce and Queen who played at the venue as part of their Magic tour in 1986.

England fans will also get to enjoy the stadium when they face Slovenia in the group stage on June 25.

Dortmund: BVB Stadion Dortmund

In a city renowned for coal, steel and beer, the home of Borussia Dortmund is now one of football's most iconic venues.

Currently Germany's largest stadium, the 81,365-capacity stadium boasts 'The Yellow Wall' - Europe's largest standing terrace for football fans.

As well as hosting the 2001 UEFA Cup final featuring Liverpool and Deportivo Alaves, Dortmund's stadium will undoubtedly offer one of the tournament's most atmospheric venues.

Dusseldorf: Dusseldorf Arena

While one of Euro 2024's smaller venues, the 47,000 capacity stadium will offer plenty of comfort for fans.

The home of Fortuna Dusseldorf, the Dusseldorf Arena is just 20 years old and boasts a retractable roof and a heating system to make it one of the tournament's most comfortable venues.

As well as hosting the Race Of Champions in 2010 with participants including Michael Schumacher, it was also the venue of Tyson Fury's historic victory over Vladimir Klitshko in November 2015 that saw him become the unified world heavyweight champion.

Frankfurt: Frankfurt Arena

The 47,000 home of Eintracht Frankfurt was built in 1925 but has been modernised multiple times and is a real staple of world sport.

As well as being a host stadium for two World Cups and two European Championships, the Frankfurt Arena is also a European home for the NFL.

This included housing two fixtures in 2023, most notably as Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs beat the Miami Dolphins by a score of 21-14.

Gelsenkirchen: Arena AufSchalke

The 50,000-seater venue will bring back traumatic memories for England fans.

It was here that Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winning penalty that saw Germany knock the Three Lions out of the 2006 World Cup in a match that saw Ronaldo's wink get Wayne Rooney sent off.

The Three Lions will need to exorcise that demon pretty quickly though, with their Euro 2024 opener against Serbia scheduled for June 16 at that very venue.

Hamburg: Volksparkstadion Hamburg

The 49,000-capacity home of Hamburger SV was first opened in 1953 before being rebuilt and reopened in 1998.

It was a stadium that Fulham fans will won't regard too fondly after losing 2-1 to Atletico Madrid in the Europa League final in 2010.

More recently, the stadium has been used as the home of Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in European football due to the ongoing invasion of their home nation by Russia.

Leipzig: Leipzig Stadium

While RB Leipzig were only formed in 2009, their stadium is steeped in history after being rebuilt on the grounds of the old Zentralstadion, the biggest stadium in the former East Germany.

With a capacity of 47,000, the stadium was used for the World Cup in 2006 with its biggest match being a 2-1 victory for Argentina over Mexico in the last-16, a clash that saw a young Lionel Messi appear off the bench.

Messi isn't the only GOAT to appear there though, with Tina Turner, Bon Jovi and Paul McCartney all performing there since its opening.

Munich: Munich Football Arena

One of European football's most impressive stadiums, the 75,000-capacity stadium opened in 2005 and is the home of Bayern Munich and a certain Harry Kane.

As well as hosting a semi-final clash at the World Cup in 2006, it was also used at Euro 2020 and even hosted Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for an NFL clash in February 2022.

Bayern's home will also be the host stadium of the tournament's opening match between Germany and Scotland - an occasion which is sure to be truly historic.

Stuttgart: Stuttgart Arena

The home of VFB Stuttgart, the 51,000-capacity stadium is another ground full of history.

Having hosted three European Cup finals, the venue has seen stars such as Alfredo Di Stefano, Eusebio, Ferenc Puskas and Ronald Koeman in action, as well as hosting the 2006 World Cup third-place play-off between Germany and Portugal.

With a quarter-final scheduled to take place there, Stuttgart will be hoping to see another sporting great strut their stuff at the iconic venue.
