Man Utd vs Liverpool LIVE score and goal updates from Ten Hag's first fixture

mirror.co.uk, 12 July 2022, 09:39
Erik ten Hag takes charge of his first Manchester United game this afternoon with Liverpool their opponents at what is expected to be a hot and humid Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok

Bangkok plays host to a mouth-watering pre-season friendly between Manchester United and Liverpool today, with kick-off at 2pm BST.

Erik ten Hag has been dealt with a tricky test as he takes to the dugout for the first time since taking over at Old Trafford. United have been back in training for over two weeks but are yet to play a game - with Jurgen Klopp's Reds their maiden opponents in what has been described as a 'new era'.

Tyrell Malacia could make his unofficial Red Devils debut after joining from Feyenoord last week, while Darwin Nunez may feature for the first time following his big-money switch to Liverpool. The former Benfica forward, however, did not take part in the second half of the Reds' training session on Monday due to a minor foot injury.

Follow Manchester United vs Liverpool as it happens below

33' KEY EVENT

GOAL! Martial!

What a finish!

Martial has given United a three-goal lead with an excellent strike, who dinks the ball over Alisson after being played one-v-one.

30'KEY EVENT

GOAL! Fred! 2-0 United

United double their advantage and what a delightful finish it was from Fred.

He dinks the ball over Alisson with aplomb!

26'Kieran King

McTominay effort saved

Sancho and Fernandes combine down the right and the move ends with McTominay finding some room inside the box.

The Scotland international spins past Gomez, but his shot is rather tame and is comfortably saved by Alisson.

23'Kieran King

Huge chance for Rashford

Phillips gifts Sancho the ball and United find themselves with a glorious chance to launch a counter-attack.

Sancho takes his time before finding Rashford at the back post, but the 24-year-old's effort is blocked by Mabaya.

20' Kieran King

Diaz hits the post

Another excellent piece of work from Diaz sees the winger find half a yard of space inside the left channel, and he drills another effort towards goal but his strike hits the outside of the post and goes behind for a goalkick.

19'Kieran King

How are Liverpool not level?!

Liverpool go close on two occasions to equalise.

First, Chambers' effort is well blocked by Dalot, before the ball makes its way to Carvalho but his shot strikes the post.

16'Kieran King

Rashford goes close

United win the ball back high through Fred, whose pass finds Martial.

The Frenchman then plays in Rashford but the latter can only find the sidenetting with a low effort.

13' KEY EVENT

GOAL! Sancho! 1-0 United

United have taken the lead through Sancho, who curls the ball low into the far corner.

An excellent finish from the winger!

11'Kieran King

Another fine De Gea stop

Diaz does well to isolate Dalot and the Colombian drives at the full-back, before coming inside to his favoured right foot.

The winger then took his time before firing an effort from 20 yards towards the far corner but De Gea did superbly to palm the ball away from danger.

8'Kieran King

Crucial interception by Gomez

Fernandes does brilliantly to skip past two Liverpool players and thread the ball into Fred who had acres of space in the Reds half.

All the Brazilian had to do was slip Sancho through on goal, but Gomez produced a crucial interception to deny United a goalscoring chance.

5' Kieran King

De Gea called into action

Mabaya bursts down the right and drills the ball low across the face of goal but De Gea manages to get down and claw the ball away with his legs.

Firmino and Diaz were waiting at the back post for a tap in.

3'Kieran King

Man Utd pressing high

United are looking to press Liverpool high with Anthony Martial setting the press with Bruno Fernandes backing him up.

Alisson almost gifted the Red Devils with an early chance but his pass managed to find its way to Chambers.

McTominay hails Ten Hag impact

Scott McTominay has opened up on one positive trait Erik ten Hag has already displayed since his Manchester United reign began - something Ole Gunnar Solskjaer always struggled with.

Speaking ahead of their first summer friendly against long-time rivals Liverpool, McTominay shed light on his dealings with the new manager so far and identified one key trait Ten Hag is already excelling at.

"He's got an idea of the way he wants to play, and he executes it really, really well in terms of getting across to the players," said McTominay.

"It's the same with [assistant coach] Mitchell [van der Gaag]. The philosophy and the ideas of the style of play for us [are] clear to see. It's up to us as players now to really take the message on board and push with everything we've got, all year."

Henderson backs Nunez at Liverpool

Jordan Henderson has backed Liverpool's record signing Darwin Nunez to fill the void left by Sadio Mane's exit.

"For any team that loses Sadio it will be a big blow, because he's a world-class player, for me one of the best forwards in the world," said Henderson.

"But we've got world class players, especially in the forward line. Luis Diaz, who performed phenomenally well last season.

"Darwin has come in, Bobby [Firmino] is coming back, so we've got world-class options. Things move on and change, so hopefully we can adapt to that quickly.
