Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo could come to the MLS: Landon Donovan

The sustained growth that Major League Soccer (MLS) has had over the years is no mystery to anyone, and proof of this is that the two best players in world soccer, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo could be considering playing in the US.

In the current season, players of the caliber of Giorgio Chiellini and Gareth Bale at Los Angeles FC, Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi at Toronto FC, or the return of Englishman Wayne Rooney as coach at DC United have all arrived.

But when it comes to players like Messi or Cristiano, whose potential entry into the MLS appears to be closer than many people think, former striker and current coach Landon Donovan staked a wager that the Argentine and the Portuguese will join the league soon.

Donovan's assertion might be more accurate than some people would like to think. So there's a good chance that Ronaldo and Messi will end up competing in the MLS at some point.

Finally, the strategist for the San Diego Loyal of the United Soccer League pointed out that US soccer is becoming more and more attractive to players and their agents, among other things, because the quality of the game is now better and so are salaries.

"Players from all over the world want the opportunity to play in the Americas, whether it's Major League Soccer or the USL. I get three or four emails every day from agents who want to bring their players to California. Now the quality of the leagues is better and that is why the players want to come. They can also earn more money than before."
