Italy hero Bonucci admits England are most impressive team so far at Euro 2020

Gareth Southgate's men were excellent against Croatia in their 1-0 Group D win on Sunday afternoon.

England were facing the 2018 World Cup finalists and, in truth, were barely troubled, even with the likes of Luka Modric, Ivan Perisic, and Marcelo Brozovic on the pitch.

Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips put on a superb display in midfield, which was praised by Jose Mourinho on talkSPORT, and assisted Sterling's Wembley winner, while Phil Foden offered glimpses of his talent.

Even a weakened backline, shorn of Manchester United captain Harry Maguire, looks in good shape.

And Bonucci was taking notes having helped his side beat Turkey 3-0 in Rome on the opening night of the competition.

Speaking prior to any of Group F's fixtures, the Italian hero was asked which nations have got his attention so far.

He replied: "Besides the teams that still need to play - who will of course impress us because they are all top countries - England have really stood out to me.

"For the approach they showed, the way the were willing to work hard for one another and the fact they sought three points, England are the team that have impressed me most so far."

Italy also looked fantastic in their opening game as they made light work of a Turkey side who some considered dark horses.

The victory saw them continue a stunning run of form and they have now won nine games in a row and kept a clean sheet in all of them.

And Bonucci, an elder statesman of the group alongside fellow Juventus hero Giorgio Chiellini, has admitted the Azzurri are a different animal under current manager Roberto Mancini.

He continued: "This is the greatest team spirit I have encountered. At no time have there been any issues in the squad.

"It is a very tight group and it is little wonder then that we are getting results."
