Gary Neville sends Man Utd simple demand over Cristiano Ronaldo transfer

Gary Neville has demanded Manchester United act quickly on the future of Cristiano Ronaldo after the attacker submitted a transfer request.

Ronaldo only returned to Old Trafford last summer in a £12million move from Serie A giants Juventus. He went on to win the club's player of the year award having finished as their top scorer in all competitions.

But it was a desperately disappointing season for United, despite Ronaldo's impressive individual campaign. As a result of them missing out on qualification for the Champions League, the Portugal national team captain is now demanding he be allowed to leave Manchester.

His agent Jorge Mendes is already thought to have held talks with Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Barcelona over potential moves for his client. Each would be able to offer the Champions League football that Ronaldo is craving.

Ronaldo is now staying away from United's training ground following his bombshell though United have claimed this is due to 'family reasons'. But it throws a major spanner in the works for new boss Erik ten Hag as he attempts to turn United's fortunes around.

And Neville has now urged the club's hierarchy to make a decision on Ronaldo's future quickly. If they allow the saga to drag on, the United legend has stated his fear that it could have a negative impact on Ten Hag's reign.

"The only important factor with the Ronaldo situation is that it's dealt with decisively and quickly. This can't be a saga that takes the focus away from ETH [Erik ten Hag] bedding in period for the next two months," Neville tweeted.

While Neville has stated his desire for a quick outcome to Ronaldo's bombshell request, he has already sent a warning about what his exit would mean for United. The Red Devils legend stated his belief that United would have to buy three players to replace him, something he doubted their ability to do.

"I think Cristiano is staying, but I think the problem started at the start of the season. Cavani pleaded to stay and lead the attack for another year, but when the club signed Ronaldo it completely put his nose out of joint. Cavani was completely shot then. He was finished," he told The Overlap in June.

"It also upset the dynamic in the dressing room with Bruno Fernandes, because he looks up to Ronaldo as a God-like character because of Portugal. I think that made him feel a bit inferior to what he was before. It also made [Harry] Maguire naturally feel inferior as captain. Not from Ronaldo himself, but his presence on the pitch. Everyone looks to Cristiano."

"For me if Ronaldo leaves we've not got a centre-forward. Then we have to go and sign three players. And we can't sign three because we haven't got the money. He always gets 18-20 goals, so if they lose his goals then that's a problem."
