Forest need to sell two summer signings already due to Premier League rules

Nottingham Forest are willing to offload summer signings Lewis O'Brien and Harry Toffolo this month.

Forest have signed 25 players since promotion after bringing in Gustavo Scarpa, Danilo and Chris Wood this month.

Reds boss Steve Cooper now needs to trim his squad to register it with the Premier League for the second half of the season.

Midfielder O'Brien and right-back Toffolo are both in line to go to get first team action elsewhere despite a joint £10million switch from Huddersfield in July.

O'Brien, 24, who has made six Premier League starts, is wanted by Championship West Brom's ex-Terriers boss Carlos Corberan.

While wing-back Toffolo, 27, who has also made six top-flight starts, is being chased by Belgian side Anderlecht.

Premier League clubs will be required to submit their revised squad lists after the closure of the January transfer window, having previously done so when the summer window closed.

Squads are required to contain no more than 17 players who do not fulfil the Home Grown Player quota, with the rest of the squad - up to a maximum of 25 players - required to be Home Grown, with an unlimited number of under-21 players allowed.

The Premier League determine a Home Grown Player as being: "a player who, irrespective of nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to The Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons, or 36 months, before his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21)."

Forest are not now planning to bring in a new first choice keeper as Dean Henderson is due back from a thigh injury in three games time.

But they could sign a new third choice keeper instead and let back-up Jordan Smith, 28, go.

Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey is set to step in for Henderson as No.1 for the next three matches, and Cooper has backed the stopper to succeed.

"Wayne is probably the most experienced player in the squad, so he is not somebody that we have to worry about in terms of preparation," he said last week.

"He is such a professional lad as well. He prepares for every game like he is going to start, just in case he is called upon. He will play on Saturday and we really back him to do well for us. It's been business as usual in terms of preparation."
