Chaos at AFCON: Referee blows for full time in the 85th minute, then again in the 89th!

The African Cup of Nations hasn't started as well as many would have hoped, with goals very much at a premium in the tournament so far. But Wednesday saw drama that made the lack of goals be forgotten for an afternoon, at least.

With Tunisia trailing Mali 1-0 as the game came to an end, Zambian referee Janny Sikazwe blew for full time. But there was shock in the stands, on the pitch, and from those watching at home as the clock only read 85 minutes.

The Tunisian camp understandably voiced their anger and confusion, leading to Sikazwe realising his error and resuming the match.

But that wasn't the end. The 42-year-old referee again called time on the game, but this time in the 89th minute. There were still 20 seconds of the 90 minutes left, and whatever should have been added in stoppage time.

Sikazwe tried to get the players to return to the pitch for what was remaining, and Mali obliged. But Tunisia refused to return to the field of play, a decision that could see them handed a 3-0 loss, or even have them expelled from the tournament.
