Andy Carroll scores 40-yard wonder goal for Amiens as French adventure continues

Andy Carroll's time across the Channel continues to get better, with back-to-back goals for Amiens.

And his second was something rather special, lobbing the Annecy goalkeeper from just outside of the centre circle in the Ligue 2 clash.

The former Newcastle, West Ham and Liverpool forward took his chance on a loose ball, and converted with incredible accuracy, guiding the ball right over Annecy goalkeeper Florian Escales and into the goal without bouncing.

Then launching off in celebration, Carroll showed off his no.99 shirt and looked utterly delighted.

The goal was only enough for a point as the match finished 1-1, but may well act as a confidence booster for Carroll who has scored in back-to-back games for the first time since December 2022, when he was at Reading.

The former England striker left the Royals during the summer, moving abroad for the first time in his near 20-year professional career.

So far he's made eight appearances, and scored twice, showing his decision to take the Eurostar may well have been a wise one.

Explaining the choice to move abroad ahead of the match, Carroll said: "Here, I can take my children to the zoo and they don't have to say, 'come on dad!' while people ask for photos or autographs.

"In Amiens, I can walk into a bakery and buy a pain au chocolat without anyone saying 'How was the match? Can I have a photo?'

"I feel like I'm normal, I just wanted to go out and be free, be me."
